The American Discovery of Ancient Egypt: Essays
Published in Hardcover by Los Angeles County Museum (April, 1996)
Authors: Nancy Thomas, James P. Allen, Dorothea Arnold, Lanny Bell, Robert S. Bianchi, Edward Brovarski, Richard A. Fazzini, Timothy Kendall, Peter Lacovara, and David O'Connor
Average review score:

Great Catalog
I thought this book was great! The pictures of the objects are beautiful. Where a picture could not be obtained there is usually a detailed sketch of the object. The descriptions give not only insight into use of the archaological object but also surrounding information like similar objects and archeological context. Then the essays descibe the time period and unknown/debated issue of Egyptian Archeology. As a newbie to Egyptian Archaeology I found the book easy to read and felt that things were explained well.

The American Gardener: A Sampler
Published in Paperback by Noonday Press (September, 1990)
Author: Allen Lacy
Average review score:

Read this first...
You walk into the (online) bookstore, head to the gardening section and see 10,000 titles. Where do you begin? Well, if you want to plant tomatos this weekend, better ask the plant seller, but if you want to know more about the experiences of your fellow travelers start with this book. Dr. Lacey has compiled an anthology of all sorts of articles and essays by many gardeners. You can get a little taste of every perspective from Thomas Jefferson to Henry Mitchell (both pretty good garden writers).

We have Anne Raver who writes for the New York Times, Celia Thaxter who became famous because an impressionist painted her garden, Katherine White who wrote for the New Yorker Magazine, Thalassa Cruso who saved my houseplants when I was a young wife with begonia fever, Miss Elizabeth Lawrence who wrote for the Charlotte Observer and many others. Enjoy this wonderful book before bed.

Anabaptist Portraits
Published in Paperback by Herald Pr (July, 1984)
Author: John Allen Moore
Average review score:

Great look at the noble Anabaptists!
This book was a Godsend to me when I found a copy back at Bible College. So much of what is available on the Anabaptist movement during the Reformation is hopelessly biased from the Reformed P.O.V.. This book, however, is not only partial to its subjects, but is immensely readable and altogether inspiring. These men (and women, too) were so bold in their imitation of New Testament Christianity they were slaughtered by Catholics and statist Protestants alike.

All of these portraits are useful and informative. The story of Michael and Margaritha Sattler DEFINES Christian courage. (If you EVER get the chance, see an independent English film about them called THE RADICALS-- one of the finest Christian films ever produced.) The section devoted to Balthasar Hubmaier is worth WHATEVER you pay for this book. Hubmaier was called by William Cathcart "the greatest man of Reformation times." I am inclined to agree.

Highly recommended.

Analysis of Customer Satisfaction Data
Published in Hardcover by American Society for Quality (August, 2000)
Authors: Derek R. Allen and Tanniru R. Rao
Average review score:

Fast-paced, focused and fluff-free
This book is for advanced practitioners in marketing, contact center/customer care and other business and technical domains that need to gather and quantitatively analyze customer satisfaction data. The focus is customer satisfaction for services more than products, but it can be used effectively in either scenario.

The introduction covers prior work in the field and lays the groundwork for subsequent chapters that cover instrumentation, data preparation, an analysis framework and models.

The key strengths of this book are the framework, which is highly structured, the models and exploratory data analysis. I liked the discussion of regression analysis problems, and the chapters on causal modeling and interdependency models. I also liked the fact that this book is short, crammed with information and techniques, and does not lose its focus. You will need to brush up on your math skills because while this book reads well and is fast-paced, it is also detailed and is heavy with quantitative methods. If I had to recommend one book on customer satisfaction data analysis this is it.

ANIMALS OF AFRICA
Published in Hardcover by Hugh Lauter Levin Associates (November, 1997)
Author: Thomas Allen
Average review score:

Excellent Photographic Safari
I have a child who is Autistic and 3 1/2 years old who fell in love with this book. He carries it around with him, although it is a bit big. His father (me) is a well known wildlife photographer who is an admirer of the photographic talent displayed in this publication. I recommend this publication highly to those who have an interest in African wildlife and the preservation of endangered and threatened animal populations. The only way this book may have been improved is if they used some of the photos that my sons father took. I still give it 5 stars!

Another Part of the Twenties
Published in Hardcover by Columbia University Press (March, 1977)
Author: Paul Allen Carter
Average review score:

the twenties
This is a wonderful book about a tough period in our history, the 20's. It shows many hardships that the people went through, even though it was a "golden" age. I am a history teacher that thought he knew everything about the 20's. This book offered me insights that I had never known about. It was a great book and I would recommend it to anyone.

The Antiquities of Wisconsin
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Wisconsin Pr (15 October, 2000)
Authors: Increase Allen Lapham and Robert P. Nurre
Average review score:

The heritage of Native American mounds and mound groups
Originally published in 1855, I. A. Lapham's The Antiquities Of Wisconsin has been out of print for decades. An invaluable compendium of Wisconsin's diverse and impressive archaeological heritage of Native American mounds and mound groups (a very large number of which have since been destroyed by farming and urban development), contemporary archaeologists and researchers continue to rely upon Lapham's maps and descriptions to locate vestiges of sites and help reconstruct the antiquarian cultural landscape of Wisconsin. This new and much appreciated edition from the University of Wisconsin Press is enhanced with a foreword by state archaeologist Robert A. Birmingham, as well as an informative introduction by leading Lapham scholar Robert P. Nurre. The Antiquities Of Wisconsin is an absolutely essential, core addition to personal, academic, and community library Wisconsin archaeology and Native American studies collections.
